Rebels and Sooners clash for college baseball supremacy

Once all of the infield dust settled in Omaha, once all of the highest-seeded teams departed after a double-elimination, once all of the errant bleacher-seat beach balls were deflated by unamused stadium staff, the two teams remaining are two unseeded squads who entered the CWS with the greatest number of losses in the field; 22-loss Mississippi and 22-loss Oklahoma. This championship tilt marks the first matchup of non-seeded schools since 2016, when Coastal Carolina surprised Arizona in three games.

OU had a relatively easy sprint to the finals, remaining undefeated while outscoring its opponents 24–11. The Rebels were pushed to an elimination game on Thursday, where they outlasted a pesky Arkansas squad, 2–0. Ole Miss will be looking to earn its first CWS title, while at the same time one-upping last year’s champion — in-state rival Mississippi State. Oklahoma will be attempting to duplicate the successful run of its Sooner softball siblings in the WCWS earlier this month, creating a coed superpower the likes of UConn’s 2014 men’s and women’s national basketball champions.

…and the 2022 NCAA champion: MISSISSIPPI REBELS
